Parcel tape is brown, sticky stuff which can be used to involuntarily mummify yourself while attempting to seal small packages. No such problems should be encountered if you use string instead, though you can inadvertently secure your finger to the parcel, and unless you sever your attached digit, you will incur substantial extra charges for postage.
