The Turner Prize – named in honour of Anthea Turner, the presenter of Blue Peter from 1992 to 1994 and the creator of the seminal video installation, Tone, Lift & Condition: The Inch Buster (1999) – is the most prestigious award in the UK art world.

Despite this, in recent years, it has increasingly and unfairly been categorised as self-indulgent, arcane and aesthetically moribund, but judged objectively, it is hard to deny the dystopian originality in works that dextrously explore and illuminate the elemental syntax of a light going on and off, policemen doing nothing for 60 minutes and filling a house with concrete.
