Tinnitus

T

Tinnitus is an inexplicable and debilitating condition whereby you hear a constant stream of hissing, whistling, popping, buzzing, clanking and other irritating noises.

There is no proven remedy, and commercially available treatments consist largely of devices which emit a sound supposedly more pleasant than that produced by the tinnitus itself. In a small number of cases, these may give temporary relief, but in the majority of instances, prolonged use can lead to the mistaken belief that you live beside a gently flowing waterfall and you may end up with moss covered ears and an unhealthy growth of lichens on your shoulder.

Despite its name, the crushed leaves of the garden shrub, Tinnitus grandiflora, have no beneficial effect on the condition.
