Liners, Bin

L

In theory, bin liners are a very good idea, potentially providing a simple and effective way to collect, store, transfer and deposit a wide range of refuse and rubbish.

However, in practice, they are next to useless, primarily because they are only ever made in two sizes, neither of which properly fits any bin you have ever owned.

In fact, it’s now widely accepted that the only people to have benefitted from bin liners are female punks of the late 1970s, who transformed them into totemic anti-fashion items of clothing, and the members of the New Zealand rugby team which played all of their matches at the 2007 World Cup in black bin liners after their original kit was destroyed when their changing room burnt down during a candle-lit rehearsal of the haka.
