Klan, Ku Klux

K

The Ku Klux Klan (KKK) is the American equivalent of Morris dancing, except that instead of leaping about with sticks, its traditional form of entertainment involves nailing black people to any nearby roof and setting fire to them.

The organisation was founded in the 1860s with the primary aim of affording white men additional opportunities to invent unnecessary words beginning with ‘KL’, such as klonvocation (a gathering), klecktoken (an initiation fee), kloran (a book of rituals) and klassole (a member of the KKK).

A British offshoot, the UKKKK, was formed in 1952 in response to the influx of West Indians, but after several decades struggling to attract members, it was co-opted into the nascent English nationalist organisation, UKKKKIP, whose primary aim was to afford white men additional opportunities to invent unnecessary words ending in ‘IP’, such as parsnip (a vicar), catnip (a cat), mendip (a person who repairs hills) and halfwip (a member of the UKKKKIP).
